Capabilities

Every metric EasySpeed measures.

The complete capability surface of the EasySpeed race analysis engine. Every value below comes from a smartphone video and a few marker placements.

No sensors. No wearables. No hardware. Phone in, race intelligence out.

Start phase (0-15m)

Everything from the gun to the moment the swimmer crosses the 15-meter mark.

  • Reaction time
Seconds from the starting gun to the swimmer's first movement on the block. Captured from the start segment only.
  • Dive flight time
Seconds from feet leaving the blocks to hands entering the water. The aerial phase of the dive.
  • Water entry speed
Meters per second when hands enter the water. The peak input speed of the dive.
  • Underwater kick count
Number of dolphin kicks performed underwater off the start (and per turn, separately).
  • Underwater time
Seconds spent below the surface before the head breaks the water.
  • Breakout speed
Underwater segment speed in m/s — breakout distance divided by underwater time. The single best indicator of underwater quality.
  • Breakout distance
Meters from the wall (or start) to the point where the head breaks the surface. Up to 15m by rule.
  • 0-15m time
Total seconds from the gun to the 15-meter line. Combines reaction, dive, and underwater quality.

Speed phase (15-45m)

The pure swimming zone after dive momentum is gone, before the wall comes into play.

  • Peak swimming speed
The fastest 10-meter swimming segment in the race, in m/s, with the segment label (e.g., 15-25m).
  • Clean swimming speed
Average speed in the 15-35m zone — dive momentum gone, turn wall not yet in play. True swimming speed.
  • Speed per 10-meter segment
Speed in m/s for every 10-meter segment of the speed phase (15-25m, 25-35m, 35-45m).
  • Distance per stroke (DPS)
Meters covered per stroke cycle, per lap. The efficiency metric — higher DPS means longer, more efficient strokes.
  • Stroke rate / tempo
Strokes per minute (spm) and seconds per cycle, per lap and aggregate. The rhythm metric.
  • Stroke index
Speed × DPS. A composite efficiency score that captures both speed and stroke quality in one number.
  • Fastest 10m segment time
Seconds for the single fastest 10-meter swimming segment. Useful for benchmarking pure swimming speed.

Turn phase

Wall to wall: approach, push-off, underwater, breakout, and the post-turn segment. Per turn, plus aggregates.

  • Turn time
Seconds spent in the 5m-in + 15m-out turn window, per turn. The composite wall metric.
  • Approach speed
Speed in m/s in the 5 meters before the wall. How fast the swimmer attacks the wall.
  • Turn exit speed
Speed in m/s in the 65-75m segment — the swimming segment immediately after the underwater.
  • Per-turn underwater kicks
Dolphin kick count for each turn separately. Identifies which turns the swimmer is shorting.
  • Per-turn breakout distance
Meters from the wall to surface, per turn. Reveals consistency across the race.
  • Per-turn glide time
Seconds spent in pre-kick streamline off the wall, per turn.

Pace phase (65-95m)

The decisive part of any race longer than 50m. Maintenance, tempo, and efficiency.

  • Maintenance speed
Average speed across the second half of the race. The most reliable predictor of final time in races 100m and up.
  • Speed per pace segment
Speed in m/s for each 10-meter segment of the back half (65-75m, 75-85m, 85-95m). Where the race is decided.
  • Tempo change between laps
Seconds per cycle, lap 1 vs lap 2. A positive number means the swimmer is slowing down (and spinning faster to compensate).
  • SWOLF
Time + strokes per length — a composite efficiency score. Lower is better. Tracks technique fatigue across a race.
  • Optimal tempo
The tempo (in seconds per cycle) at which the swimmer's stroke index peaks. The personal efficiency sweet spot.
  • Optimal DPS
Distance per stroke at the swimmer's best stroke index. The target DPS in race-pace work.

Finish phase (75-100m)

The last 25 meters. Whether the swimmer attacked the wall or faded into it.

  • Last 15m time
Seconds for the final 15 meters. The closing speed signature.
  • Last 25m time
Seconds for the final 25 meters. The classic closing benchmark.
  • Closing percentage
Finish-segment speed as a percentage of race-average speed. 96%+ is elite; below 90% indicates a hard fade.
  • Finish speed
Speed in m/s during the finish segment. Distance-aware — adapts to event length.
  • Stroke rate per finish segment
Strokes per minute in the 85-95m and 95-100m windows. Identifies whether the swimmer crashes the rate or holds form.

Cross-race intelligence

Patterns and bests built across a swimmer's full race history, not just the current race.

  • Personal-best race overlay
Side-by-side view of any race against the swimmer's PB. Shows exactly where time was gained or lost, segment by segment.
  • Multi-race progression tracking
Every metric tracked across the swimmer's full race history. See whether DPS, breakout speed, or maintenance is improving over time.
  • Theoretical best race
Constructs the swimmer's fastest possible race by taking each segment's personal best. Reveals what's already inside the swimmer's data.
  • Per-metric personal bests
Personal bests for every metric — not just final time. Best breakout speed, best DPS, fastest turn, lowest reaction, and so on.
  • Volatile segment detection
Identifies the segments where the swimmer's performance varies the most across races — the technique that's still inconsistent.

Platform capabilities

What EasySpeed supports beyond the analysis engine.

  • All four strokes plus IM
Freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and individual medley. Each stroke gets stroke-specific markers and analysis.
  • All three pool types
Long course meters (LCM, 50m), short course meters (SCM, 25m), and short course yards (SCY, 25yd). Distances stored natively.
  • EasySpeed Guide
Personal AI companion for swimmers and coaches. Reads your race history, answers questions, helps you dream and plan.
  • Voice-to-practice AI
Coaches dictate a practice description; EasySpeed parses it into structured sets, distances, intensities, and rest intervals.
  • Practice creator
